Location and surroundings

Fehmarn is a Baltic Sea island off the coast of Schleswig-Holstein, linked to the mainland by the Fehmarn Sound Bridge. The land is flat and open: fields and meadows run up to the dikes, and the beaches begin behind them. The island is known as one of the sunniest places in Germany, and there is almost always a breeze.

We are planning the camp so that the way to the water stays short. You feel the light, the wind and the open sky right at your pitch. Nearby are small towns with a harbour, a bakery and fish rolls, handy for shopping and an evening out of camp.

The island suits families well, because distances are short and the water starts out shallow. If you prefer it more active, you will find wind and waves for kitesurfing and windsurfing. In between, there is room for days when you simply sit in front of your tent and watch the water. This mix of calm and movement is what convinced us about Fehmarn.

Accommodation

On Fehmarn you can choose between four types of accommodation. Pitch S has room for up to two people, Pitch XL for up to six, with space for a rig or a large tent. The glamping tent is designed for up to four people, the tiny house for up to three and has its own bathroom. All pitches are fully serviced, electricity is included.

Dogs are welcome. Just let us know with your request and we will confirm it for your accommodation.

What you can do here

Fehmarn offers plenty of room for fresh-air activity and for quiet days by the water:

  • Beaches: Long beaches line the island. Some are quiet and natural, others have a promenade, beach chairs and a snack bar.
  • Kitesurfing and windsurfing: Fehmarn is a well-known spot. Schools and rentals can be found in several places on the island, including for beginners.
  • Cycling: A cycle path runs all the way around the island, approx. 80 km long and without big climbs. It is easy to do in two or three stages.
  • Fehmarn Sound Bridge: Known locally as the coat hanger, the bridge is a popular photo spot and a rewarding destination for a bike ride.
  • Lighthouses: Lighthouses such as those at Flügge or Staberhuk make nice destinations for a day out.
  • Denmark: The ferry to Rødby leaves from Puttgarden, so a day trip to Denmark is easy.

Best time to visit

June to August is the warmest period, the Baltic Sea invites you to swim and the days are long. May and September are quieter, with cooler evenings, and well suited to cycling and water sports. Kite and windsurfers like spring and autumn because it is often windier then.

The camp is expected to open in spring and close in autumn. We will announce exact dates before opening.

Getting there

By car you reach the camp from Lübeck in approx. 1:00 h, from Kiel in approx. 1:15 h and from Hamburg in approx. 1:45 h. From Bremen it is approx. 2:50 h, from Hanover approx. 3:15 h and from Berlin approx. 4:00 h. From Copenhagen you arrive in approx. 3:30 h including the ferry. All times are by car from the city centre. The diagram further up shows the directions.

Check-in is from 3 pm, check-out until 11 am.
