Location and surroundings

The west coast of Jutland is one of the widest coastal landscapes in Northern Europe. Between the North Sea and a fjord lies a narrow strip of dunes, heath and meadows, and the sky takes up more room there than almost anywhere else. The wind is a constant companion, just like the light, which changes several times over the course of a day.

Our camp is taking shape in this landscape, not far from the beach. The dunes shelter the site from the wind, and the open sea begins just behind them. In the area you will find small fishing villages with a harbour and a smokehouse, plus holiday home areas of the kind common on the Danish coast. For bigger shopping trips you drive to one of the towns inland.

Accommodation

Four types of accommodation are available on the Danish North Sea coast. Pitch S is designed for up to two people, Pitch XL for up to six, for example with a caravan or a larger tent. The glamping tent offers proper beds and its own terrace for up to four people. The tiny house is meant for up to three people and has its own bathroom. Electricity is included on all pitches.

Dogs are welcome. Mention it briefly in your enquiry and we will confirm it for your accommodation.

What you can do here

The coast invites you to move, but also to spend days doing hardly anything:

  • Beach and dunes: The beaches are wide and long, and often you have them almost to yourself. When the sea is calm you can swim, and when it is windy a walk through the dunes is worth it.
  • Wind and wave sports: Kitesurfing, windsurfing and surfing are popular on the North Sea. The water stays fresh even in summer, so a wetsuit is part of the kit.
  • Cycling: A continuous cycle path runs along the west coast and is part of the North Sea Cycle Route. For shorter rides, the paths through heath and dunes are a good choice.
  • Amber and shells: After storms the sea washes up amber and shells. With patience along the tideline you may find a piece with a bit of luck.
  • Ribe: Denmark's oldest town lies about an hour's drive to the south and is worth a day trip, with half-timbered lanes and a cathedral.
  • Billund: With children, a day at Legoland is an option, about 1:00 h away.

Best time to travel

From June to August the days are long and warmest, and the beach is at its busiest. Many people consider September the finest month: the light is soft, the evenings get cooler and it is quieter. In early summer and autumn it is often windier, which kitesurfers and windsurfers appreciate.

The camp is expected to open in spring and close in autumn. We will announce the exact dates before opening.

Getting there

By car you reach the camp from Esbjerg in approx. 0:50 h and from Billund in approx. 1:00 h. From Aarhus it takes approx. 1:45 h, from Flensburg approx. 2:15 h, from Kiel approx. 3:00 h and from Hamburg approx. 3:30 h. The times refer to the drive from the respective city centre, and the diagram further up shows the directions.

For orientation: you usually arrive from 3 pm and leave by 11 am.

Questions about this location

Are dogs allowed on the beach?

Yes, dogs are welcome at the camp. In Denmark dogs must be kept on a lead on the beach from April to September. Outside this period the rules are more relaxed, so please follow the signs on site.

Can I swim in the North Sea?

Yes, swimming is possible in summer, but the water stays fresh. Watch for currents, wind and the signs at the beach access points.

What can I do in bad weather?

The area has museums, attractions for children and cosy cafés. Ribe, Esbjerg and Billund are easy to reach on a rainy day.

Is the area suitable for families?

Yes. The beaches are spacious, the distances short and there is plenty of room to play. A nature playground and a baby-changing room are planned at the camp.
